Recap: BuildZero Testing 2026 @ Arnhem Electricity Week

From 20 to 22 May, ENI, BMWT and ElaadNL organised the third edition of BuildZero Testing during Arnhem Electricity Week. For three days, the ElaadNL site was dedicated to real-world testing for the zero-emission construction site.

During three sunny days, manufacturers, developers and testing experts worked closely together to test electric construction equipment, charging solutions, mobile battery systems and energy management systems. There was a great deal of interaction, knowledge exchange and collaboration. It was inspiring to see theory, technology and practice come together at the test location.

During the event, the focus included charging zero-emission construction equipment at different types of charging stations, including fast chargers. Standardisation of charging sessions was also examined, with attention to protocols such as ISO 15118-2, as well as the use of mobile battery systems as an energy source and buffer on the construction site.

New this year was real-time monitoring using an energy management system. In practice, this was used to explore how peak loads can be managed more effectively and how available capacity can be used more intelligently. This is important for enabling the use of more electric construction equipment, even with a limited grid connection and a mobile battery.

A valuable and well-received event

We have added photos below this post to give an impression of the event, the tests and the collaboration on site.

We look back on a successful edition of BuildZero Testing. Together with ENI and BMWT, we organised a valuable and well-received event that, as far as we are concerned, certainly leaves us wanting more. The intensive collaboration between all parties involved shows how important practical, real-world testing is in advancing zero-emission construction.
