TEPQEV

Research on supraharmonic distortions by EV-charging

We have now finalized the TEPQEV (Time proof Electricity grids by Power Quality improvement of Electric Vehicles)-project which studied supraharmonic distortions caused by EV-charging. Such distortions may occur when converting AC into DC, both in on-board chargers in electric vehicles, and in DC (fast) charging stations.

Supraharmonic distortions may cause malfunctioning of domestic electronic devices, residual current devices as well as disturb the charging of other, adjacent EVs. Please find below a white paper in which we present our main findings and proposal for emission limits. We recommend that emission limits for on-board chargers will be integrated in type approval requirements for electric vehicles; also, emission limits for DC-charging stations should be included in regulations for grid-connected devices.
