Test event Residential Flexibility: third edition

Two full days of testing

Join the third Residential Flexibility Test Event and help shape the future of interoperable energy solutions.
To support the development of seamless communication between Flexible Energy Intensive Devices (FEID) and Home Energy Management Systems (HEMS), ElaadNL is organising the third edition of this test event.

Participants will have the opportunity to test their hardware and software with products from other market parties in a practical, multi-vendor setting. It is a unique chance to validate interoperability, exchange insights and contribute directly to the next steps towards market-wide alignment.

Our shared ambition is to establish a certification process for interoperable HEMS and FEIDs by the end of 2026.

Programme

The programme for the two days is now largely set:

Five test rounds across the two days for one-to-one testing with other participants, plus free testing time on Thursday afternoon.
The thread running through both days is an end-to-end chain test: from an OpenADR signal entering the home through to actually controlling any connected asset. That is the precursor to certification against the NTA agreements.
The protocol organisations present themselves: EEBUS, Matter and S2 on their certification programmes, an S2 Connect demo, the EEBUS test setup and a session on OpenADR. On top of that a free test and validation moment for our Modbus converter, where we aim to validate mappings from as many manufacturers as possible.
Our own residential flexibility setup runs on new open source code, and you can connect your asset to it directly — over the protocols S2, EEBUS, Matter or our Modbus converter.
EEBUS will bring its own test lane, including their test tool and a tester of their own. We are running talks with the other protocol parties on how they could match this.
Whatever surfaces during the testing, we will record together in the test event portal and share with all participants. You go home with a concrete list rather than an impression.

Venue

The event takes place in our new hall, the extension of the Testlab in which residential flexibility gets a permanent and generous place. And because technical depth in our view goes hand in hand with Dutch hospitality, we’ll have fresh Dutch stroopwafels and good coffee to keep the energy levels high.

Why this edition matters

This is the final testing round before we expect to deliver a certification scheme for interoperable residential flexibility at the end of 2026.

Why join?

Test interoperability in practice, learn from other participants and contribute to the development of future certification.

The test event is open to all producers and manufacturers of equipment that is within scope: HEMS, either physical or via the cloud, and EV chargers, stationary batteries, solar inverters and heat pumps.

Participation is free. Without a device you are welcome as an observer: the presentations are open to everyone.
