Symposium: V2X (Vehicle to anything)

Wednesday May 29th 2024 / 10.00 uur

ElaadNL, Arnhem, The Netherlands

On May 29 ElaadNL will organize a symposium on V2X (Vehicle to Anything)

On Wednesday, May 29, 2024, ElaadNL is once again organizing a symposium on V2X (Vehicle to anything) at its Testlab in Arnhem. We will showcase the possibilities of using the batteries of electric cars as a buffer in a sustainable energy system. What is needed to technically realize this?
The occasion is the report ‘Unlocking EV Smart Charging to reduce grid congestion – lessons from the Netherlands’ by PricewaterhouseCoopers, which addresses regulatory barriers. The findings from this report will be shared with you during the symposium. Attention will also be given to aspects of V2X that are of great importance to Distribution System Operators (DSOs). In addition, there will be a technical demonstration to show how V2X works in practice in 2024.

Vehicle-to-grid (V2G) and Vehicle-to-X (V2X) represent the concept of an electric vehicle returning energy to the energy network or to specific targets such as a private home or neighborhood, respectively. Thus, a car could be charged with sustainable energy from wind and sun during the day, to then supply electricity back to the grid or to the private home in the evening. This brings energy demand and supply more into balance. The Netherlands is a pioneer in this field, and ElaadNL is involved in various international projects: SCALE; in standardization initiatives to further develop the data exchange required for V2X (ISO 15118, OCPP); and has provided input to the RfG consultation through the Dutch network operators.

“The potential of V2X is and remains enormous,” says Baerte de Brey, Chief International Officer at ElaadNL: “Also this year, this event is there to continue sharing knowledge about how far we are technically and what steps we need to take in 2024 in the field of international collaboration.”

“The potential is certainly enormous. There are multiple triggers for the activation of V2X. These triggers can also worsen the network situation, so there are likely extra rules needed to guide V2X properly,” says Arjan Wargers, Innovation Manager at ElaadNL and Enexis: “that aspect will also be included this year.”

When and where?

The symposium will take place in the hall of the Elaad Testlab in Arnhem.

Date: Wednesday May 29, 2024
Time: 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Location: ElaadNL, Industry Park Kleefse Waard (IPKW), building KB, Westervoortsedijk 73 in Arnhem, The Netherlands

Confirmed presentations are:

  • PricewaterhouseCoopers: in response to the report, on regulatory barriers
  • Florentien Benedict, Stedin: Requirements for Generators (RfG)
  • Matthijs Kok, municipality Utrecht
  • Robin Berg, We Drive Solar
  • Renault
  • Jan Kula, E.DSO / Cez Distribuce: what kind of rules, processes etc DSOs have to develop to accomodate V2G (and to make use of it)
  • Lonneke Driessen, Open Charge Alliance: alignment of ISO 15118 and OCPP to assure charge infrastructure aligns with the RfG demands
  • Arjan Wargers, Enexis: impact analysis of V2G from the perspective of different use cases
  • Thijs van Wijk, ElaadNL: test and verification process RfG-demands on EVSEs (and EVs)
