CharIN Testival Europe 2026 gathers international charging experts in Arnhem

From 5 to 7 May, CharIN Testival Europe 2026 took place at the ElaadNL Test Lab in Arnhem. Together with co-host Milence, we welcomed more than 200 participants from the international EV and charging infrastructure sector for three days of testing, collaboration and knowledge exchange.

During the Testival, vehicle manufacturers, charging station producers, test companies and infrastructure parties worked together to improve interoperability between electric vehicles and charging infrastructure. Across nine different test sessions, communication standards, system compatibility and new charging technologies were extensively tested and validated.

An important theme this year was bidirectional charging, also known as V2G. Both AC and DC scenarios were tested, including applications based on ISO 15118-20 and bidirectional charging for heavy-duty transport via the Megawatt Charging System (MCS). There was also strong interest in MCS, once again showing how quickly the electrification of heavy transport is developing.

For ElaadNL, the Testival is an important opportunity to work with market parties on reliable and future-proof charging infrastructure. It also provided a valuable opportunity for Grid Code testing. In the case of Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) charging, this involved examining how the vehicle and charging station respond to signals and requirements from the electricity grid. By testing in real-life conditions, standards are not only developed, but also made genuinely applicable in practice.

Impression CharIN Testival

The CharIN Testival is, of course, also an opportunity for testers and other stakeholders from the charging industry to meet and exchange ideas in an open setting during test sessions, presentations and demonstrations.

The photos below give an impression of three intensive and valuable days in Arnhem, where collaboration and interoperability were at the heart of the event.
