Role of ElaadNL
ElaadNL has a proven track record in improving technical connectivity and standardisation of charging infrastructure for electric vehicles (EVs). In recent years, ElaadNL has also explored the development of connectivity for other assets within the home, both nationally and internationally, and has developed its own HEMS and connections with relevant devices in its development lab.
In this project, ElaadNL will act as coordinator and executor. Market parties have indicated that they are keen to entrust this role to ElaadNL due to its substantive expertise, the availability of its test facilities for HEMS and smart devices, and its position as a stakeholder in the energy system without a commercial role in the HEMS or device supplier/manufacturer market.
Coordination and Project Management
ElaadNL is taking the lead in developing test scenarios based on the three use cases, planning, and documenting results. As a neutral party, ElaadNL safeguards openness and standardisation within the project.
Network & Ecosystem
Through its extensive network of grid operators, knowledge institutions, and industry partners, ElaadNL can involve relevant stakeholders and thus increase the impact of the project.
Facilitating a Test Environment
ElaadNL has an EV & Smart Charging Test Lab and facilities to test various devices and HEMS solutions. This lab can serve as neutral ground for demonstrations and integration tests.
Knowledge Sharing and Publication
The lessons learned and results from the project will be shared (in anonymised form) within the sector to promote interoperability. This will, of course, be done with respect for the intellectual property and commercially sensitive information of participants.
ElaadNL will also actively participate in the development of NTA standards for smart devices and HEMS by NEN, and will take part in international working groups on standardisation and interoperability for residential flexibility.
Open Source Support
ElaadNL will contribute to the establishment of an open-source repository, where developed connectors or tools will be made available. ElaadNL can take on a management role here to ensure continuity. Of course, it is up to manufacturers themselves to decide how they implement the relevant protocols in their products or services, whether or not making use of the open-source code developed within this project.
