However, reliable communication between energy management systems and battery energy storage systems is crucial to their effective deployment. In a white paper, we outline the current state of play, the key challenges and a pathway towards a widely applicable standard.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Zero-emission construction is becoming increasingly common in the Netherlands, helping to reduce nitrogen emissions, mitigate climate change and improve air quality. This involves extensive use of electric construction equipment, all of which requires a sufficient power supply, even at construction sites with no grid connection or only limited grid capacity for charging electric vehicles and machinery.<\/p>\n<p>Battery energy storage systems (BESS) play a key role in meeting this need. ElaadNL is investigating how standardised communication can improve the interoperability, safety and scalability of BESS applications on construction sites. Reliable communication between energy management systems (EMS) and BESS is essential for their effective use at zero-emission construction sites.
