Leading off-highway vehicle manufacturers have joined forces in this OEM Roundtable to discuss voluntary, open market standards for Zero Emission (ZE) construction machinery. The Roundtable is facilitated by ENI (Emissieloos Netwerk Infra) and ElaadNL. The companies have worked together pre-competitively to articulate recommendations on various design aspects of larger electric machines. Liebherr, Komatsu, Volvo CE and VDL ETS invite all OEMs that sell in the European market to adopt those recommendations voluntarily. Following them will enable easier adaptation by end users in the European markets. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Electrification brings important health and environmental benefits. It simultaneously mitigates climate (CO2<\/sub>), nature (NOx) and health (toxicity, noise, vibrations) impacts inherent to the combustion of diesel in construction equipment. The transition towards ZE construction machines has already started in some countries like the Netherlands and Scandinavia. But in most European countries markets are still in their infancy.<\/p>\n

Where electric machinery is used in the field, some common problems have been identified by frontrunners. E.g. the fact that various charging protocols are in use that can result in operational disruptions due to incompatible communication between charger and machine. Or the fact that lights at the charging inlet to indicate the charging session status vary greatly if they are present at all, making misinterpretation of the status signal more likely.<\/p>\n

In order to increase adaptability and interoperability of electric machinery, the leading OEMs in this Roundtable have worked together to identify pragmatic best practices and tested their resulting recommendations with a sounding board of experienced European end users.<\/p>\n

By publishing the recommendations, the OEM Roundtable hopes to encourage other OEMs to adopt those voluntary recommendations as well in order to benefit end users: making it easier for markets to choose for electric equipment from a range of producers with the comfort that different brands work safe and seamlessly side by side in the customer specific, multi brand environments.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
